2012 TRAVEL AWARDS
A limited number of travel awards will be available for graduate students and early career scientists presenting posters at the 2012 NHSN Conference. Funding priority will be given to graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, and early career investigators. The Poster Session Committee will select six abstracts from those submitted for the poster session for special recognition as oral presentations in the New Investigator Panel.
New Investigators Panel
All presenters selected for the New Investigator Panelist will receive a travel award for the 2012 NHSN Conference.
Guidelines for Travel Award Applicants
The conference travel award will cover costs associated with travel and double occupancy lodging (maximum of 3 nights). Selected recipients of the travel awards must process all travel and hotel arrangements through LSUHSC by contacting Betsy Giaimo , the Conference Coordinator. Travel arrangements not made through the Conference Coordinator will not be reimbursed.
Travel awards are based on availability of funds. Awardees must commit to attend all of the conference sessions and programmed activities. A roommate will be assigned unless you identify a specific individual with whom you prefer to share a room. For individuals who do not wish to share a room, the travel award will only cover 50% of the cost of lodging. Registration must still be paid by the individual attendees. If you wish to register for the conference, please contact Betsy Giaimo at MGiaim@lsuhsc.edu
Travel award recipients will be selected by the 2012 Conference Program Committee based on financial need, availability of funds, and relevance of research presented in abstract to the mission of NHSN. For students, a letter from the mentor justifying the need for this award must be emailed to Betsy Giaimo. (Please put “Travel Award - Mentor Letter” in subject line). The letter from the mentor should include why the student should get the award, how participation in the NHSN conference will help in the training of the student, the willingness of the student's mentor/department to help support travel for the conference (specifically covering registration fee), and the contribution of the student/trainee to the work being presented at the meeting.
Travel awards are now CLOSED.
